Neuroscience for n00bs: Where to start reading
This is aimed at people who have got an interest in neuroscience, and are considering studying it at college/uni, whatever. Most of it is talking about the websites/texts that I use, and the rest is a bit about what I am doing.
If you read a good book, or found a good website on the ‘net, please comment with it, so people interested can check it out.

NOTE: I am sorry about the audio. My new camera here does not have audio in it, so I record on my MP3 player, and attempt to sync them together. It’s hard, and the voice quality is crap (I guess it was pretty crap before anyway.)

WTF were you doing in the first few mins of the video?
Your lucky I saw “odenskrigare” comment and skipped the first 2 mins of retardedness to find some info.

Just thought id say, this is a great comment, was just popping back to remember some of the books, and thought your comment resonated with what I wish I had put. So yea, Ditto.
Hope this doesn’t …
Hope this doesn’t sound overly brusque. It’s the Internet after all…
If you cut the first minute of this video, I would have given it 5 stars (I gave it 4) because it’s brilliant past the groan-inducing puns.
One other recommendation I would have made: draw special attention to the work of Vernon Mountcastle, who made the amazing discovery that neocortical tissue starts out the same, then specializes.
Don’t get me wrong: bad jokes or not, the world is in sore need of more people like you.
I searched “where …

A comment about …
A comment about useful websites: I have a website called ‘1researcher’, which allows you to add article citations from PubMed, manage articles, store PDFs online, compose articles, and post them on a blog if needed. I am interested to make this site as useful as possible to scientists. Please let me know if you like it.
Neuroanatomy isn’t …
Neuroanatomy isn’t an easy subject.
So many pathways to remember and it’s sometimes not easy to visualise exactly how the parts of the brain are related spatially.
No, “Strange” is …
No, “Strange” is the middle name for us neuro students b/c we tend to think differently than most people; we are highly curious in nature, and tend to have atypical/ peculiar behavioural traits…. idiosyncratic, if you will. You just got to love us all cuz we love we all.
Neuroscience for …
Neuroscience for noobs? This is more like “neuroscience for IDIOTS”, bad jokes and insult to intelligence… what do you think we are… STUPID? I guess this makes me stupid for watching this in the first place…*rolls eyes*… Common girl, get serious and silp in some “real” jokes for once. Go hard core with the science…. this is crap.

You asked for a …
You asked for a suggestion for good websites–I think you’ll like BioWizard. Its like digg but for life science topics– users submit articles directly from PubMed. You can elect to get weekly email notifications in your discipline (neuroscience). It also have Citations, Export to EndNote, and Conference Abstracts. Check it out.

These are great books for causal reading about current research in neuroscience:

*The Brain that Changes Itself

She isn’t strange at all. From all the people it’s the 90%+ NT’s with neurotypical brains that are strange… with their illogical animal-like social instincts and subconscious communication.
