kidnetic.com teaches kids about organs, nutrition, and exercise etc.. I went on it frequently at ages 8 to 12, and my sister used it at age five and on…really fun! There’s exercising games too.

Education, What if Public School Students could learn online from for profit educational websites?

They could opt out of classes with a physical teacher and study a subject or all subjects with the aide of a website and just be given exams in person at the public school. I think that competition is good. If we believe in capitalism, we need to get capitalism into education.
The result that I am condoning is that public school money would go to educational websites that could out perform a physical teacher.

ALEKS is a damn good web site that I use to supplement my kid’s public schooling "education."

I am convinced of the effectiveness of this method, and after reviewing the program I think it could stand alone without a teacher.

I am looking for websites to visit with my 3 yr old to show letters and their sounds, maybe some basic math. Someone introduced me to www.starfall.com and I am looking for more of the same.
I get so tired of ppl like Library whatever. I spend plenty of time using manipulatives to teach her. I am finding sites for her to use with me…..kids love that stuff.

Yeah, I gotta agree with the first answer. There are more ‘educational’ sites out there, I’m sure, and ones with fewer characters that will hustle your kid to fuss for the matching stickers in the store, but, http://pbskids.org/ is the one that causes meltdowns here when it’s time to stop playing with it. What educational value is there is concentrated given how much attention is paid to it.

http://tiji.fr/ is good for anybody trying to introduce French.

3yo is also a huge fan of the games at http://noddy.com/ (though perhaps getting a little old in recent months, more into pbskids nowadays)

Googling around for "preschooler worksheets" will get you a boatload of printables that should appeal to any kid who likes Starfall stuff.
